It all began while driving along McLeary Street, en route to surf Aviones. As I approached Ocean Park,
there it was, a For Rent sign recently posted at #1911. I pulled over, inquired, and rented it on the spot,
thus delaying graduate studies - and extending my surf time. I went for an afternoon surf at Aviones, came home
and informed the family, and thus the journey began. The year was 1977 - and Playero was born.
Today, the Playero tradition continues, combining the vision of the next generation with the wisdom of the past. I would like to thank and give props to our alumni and riders, past and present, with whom we have shared the ride and without whom none of this would have been possible ...
Thanks to: Jorge Machuca, Mark Smestad, Felix Elwin, Shaft, Chegui Capre, Georgie Fernandez, Jorge Morales, Luisin Acosta, Edwin Santos, Alberto Licha, Matt Watson, Brian Carver, Alex Beale, Cal Garcia, Godfrey Chu Cheong, Carlitos Nichols, Mike Yamin, Carlos "Frog" Ramos, Charlie Ortiz, Polo, Lester Camp, Luisin Pedreira, Juan IbaƱez, Lilly Franceschini, Nahir Fontane, Rafa Herrera, Michael Gutierrez, Alberto Castro, Dicky Villanueva, Jorge Nido, Peter Fenn, Luigi Díaz, Fernando Rodriguez, Leslie Bursian, Tommy Bursian, Alejandro Moreda, Javier Rivera, Antonio Yordan, Brigitte Yordan, and the one who singlehandedly has kept it all together: Gigi Nones.
Onward to Mayhem!
